I am super excited to share with all my Mainline Philadelphia readers a new series called "Local Loves". These posts will feature some of my favorite places from Villanova to Berwyn and beyond! Last Monday I had the pleasure of having a pedicure done at the Sage & Grey Nail Salon. I discovered them on Instagram over winter break, and couldn't wait to give them a try. This beautiful new salon is located in Radnor, only about 4 minutes from Villanova University. While the cost of a mani/pedi falls within the average market price, the experience you'll have is extraordinary.
Although I didn't have an appointment, I was promptly greeted when I entered the salon. I was asked to choose my color from a selection of high quality nail polishes by either OPI, Essie and Zoya. Zoya is a personal favorite of mine because the brand offers a 5-free formula and does not participate in any animal testing. Further, their colors range from classic to trendy, and are incredibly resilient. It's been well over a week since my pedicure and I have not experienced a chip. Plus, the polish still has a gorgeous shine. Not many salons carry Zoya, so this was an instant "check plus" in my mind.
Time-wise, a pedicure at Sage & Grey will run about 40-45 minutes. Let me tell you, it was an absolutely glorious 45 minutes. In New York, it's easy to find inexpensive, quality nail salons, so it takes a lot to impress me. On the Mainline, however, I've struggled to find a place I really felt was worth the price of admission. Sage & Grey changed all that for me.
Upon selecting my color, my pedicurist seated me in the most fabulous pedicure chair. They were comfortable yet chic. I was immediately offered a beverage and told to slip my little piggies into the water-filled basin. With bubbles on, I drank my water and chatted with the friendly pedicurist. The staff was super sweet, attentive and professional. As the pedicure progressed, I saw that the pedicurist was preparing hot stones for a leg massage prior to polish. All I could think was "Oh, cr*p! Did I forget to tell the front desk I wanted a regular pedicure?" I can't remember the last time I had hot stones incorporated into a pedicure without paying a premium. It was my birthday week, so I said forget it. Whatever the cost was, I'd just bite the bullet. To my surprise, when I went up to pay, I did receive a regular pedi!! Sage & Grey's basic services include the little luxuries we all love without an additional cost. I cannot say enough great things about my experience. If you're in the area, it's a must-go. I'll be heading back there myself in a few weeks.
