What I Learned on My Summer Vacation

August 29, 2014

With summer about to say its final goodbyes, I wanted to recap all the great things I learned while I was on vacation. Now you may feel like we are back in the third grade recapping our summertime activities, but on You Have the Right to Remain Fabulous summer activities mean updated beauty routines and new pilates classes.

So let's get into it!

What I learned on my summer vacation...

1. How to keep your skin clear after a day(s) of traveling, swimming, exercising, etc.

Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub Oil-Free Acne Wash, $6.49 at drugstores & Target

This product will clear both existing acne and bacteria-filled, acne-producing pores under the skin! I used this while I was in Florida for 2 weeks without a single break out. Best drugstore find ever - Even Allure Magazine rated it #1!

2. How to keep my feet comfy all summer long
Yellowbox Flip-Flops, prices vary depending on style, available at Zappos, YellowBoxShoes, Amazon, and Belk

Yellowbox flip-flops are out of this world comfortable! As someone who struggles with knee issues, wearing super flat (and often super cute) sandals is not an option for me. Every summer I stock my shelves with as many Yellowbox flip-flops as my budget will allow. The quality and crystal-detail is incredible and it keeps you fashionable and pain-free!

Margaritaville Flip-Flops, limited options, available here

My most recent discovery in the comfy flip-flop realm is by Margaritaville! I got these for $20 while on vacation. It was a local shop, so I don't think this will be the typical going price for these babies, but I would pay anything. They rival the Yellowbox comfort level I've become so accustomed to and also offer a simple, beach style, rather than a flashy flip-flop.

***LOCAL REVIEW***
STUART/TREASURE COAST, FLORIDA

Every summer my family and I travel down to Stuart, Florida, which is located on the Treasure Coast (East Coast, between West Palm Beach and Boca) to vacation at my Grandpa's condo. He lived in New York close to us, but had purchased this little gem back in the 1980's. We only started using it a few years ago, but it was by far my Grandpa's favorite place to be. As most of you know, my Grandpa passed away last year so maintaing our family tradition is something we all take very seriously - it is what he would have wanted.

If you are ever in the area, there are two places you must go!

1. Oasis Pamper Nails & Spa, 746A SE Federal Highway, Stuart, FL
MyTien and her husband own the nail salon and are the most hospitable, welcoming people I've ever met. The minute you walk in, you feel like you've known them forever. Another fantastic part - MyTien is an incredible nail tech. She's well-versed in all types of nail design, including gel. She gave me a fabulous "anchor" mani during my recent visit. My mom, who suffers from fibromyalgia typically dislikes pedicures because the techs usually give too rigorous of a massage, adores the staff at Oasis. She waits patiently every year to go have her mani/pedi at her favorite nail salon (I'm her nail tech during the rest of the year). The prices are extremely reasonable, especially if you are coming from the tri-state area. This place is the best on the Treasure Coast!

2. Balanced Body Works, 1855 SE Federal Highway, Stuart, FL
After a year of basically being sedentary due to school, my Grandpa's passing, and other nonsense, I needed to get back into working out. My doctor advised me that exercise was a must, so while I had the time, I decided to get back into pilates - a practice I had loved for so many years. I did a quick google search and came across Balanced Body Works. I reached out to the owner, Cecilia, and she called me promptly to discuss my options regarding classes. That simple call set the standard...her customer service and concern for her clients, old and new, was completely evident. I was able to fit a total of 4 classes into my vacation schedule, 2 mat classes and 2 reformer classes. They were both simply amazing! Cecilia is an exceptional teacher and was able to adapt her style to each student's needs. After my first class I felt rejuvenated and upon completion of all the classes, I felt back to my old self. Cecilia assisted me with exercises I was struggling with to ensure proper form (and avoid injury), because I was pretty rusty. If you love pilates and are traveling near Stuart, I would highly recommend going to Balanced Body Works. Classes are fun, affordable, and you will feel absolutely fabulous afterwards.
