Style File: Will's Dental School Formal

My boyfriend, Will, and I have been together since we were 15 years old. As high school sweethearts, we went through the trials and tribulations of preparing collage applications, learning how to drive, going to prom and all those other coming-of-age things together. We've truly grown together and it's something I cherish everyday. On our first date he told me about his dream of becoming a dentist and after years of hard work and dedication, the love of my life is finally a first-year dental student (soon to be D2 in a few weeks) at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine. On March 27, 2014, I had the privilege of being his date to his dental school formal and celebrating all his first-year success.

Of course, when I heard this event was coming up, my immediate thought was "what do I wear?!"... It was March - still a miserable winter for the Northeast but the date was only a few days away from April's hope of Spring. I was in a fashion conundrum. My challenge: find a formal outfit during transition season

Being a law student on a dismal budget, I rummaged through my pile of coupons and gift cards in hopes of finding some budget-friendly opportunities. And there it was, a $78 Bebe gift card - SCORE!

I hadn't shopped at Bebe since I was in the 8th grade, mainly because their items were often over priced and my body shape (namely my big ass) just never fit right in their clothes. But, as my luck would have it, I came across a dress that I felt met all my dental formal fashion needs. I found my holy grail with Bebe's Black & White Colorblock Scuba Tank Dress ($149). It was sexy, classy and affordable with my gift card. It fit well and the black & white color scheme make it easy to accessorize with items already in my closet. I knew it would also be a dress I'd be able to wear again.

Day before formal - had to ask my law school friends if I looked like Shamu.
I didn't feel fat but I've never worn a color block black & white dress and I was a little concerned!
Shoes: Christian Louboutin, New Simple 85 in Black Patent Leather
(Christmas Present from Will, Dec. 2012)

Please excuse Will's bedroom as the background (i.e. my cord & crap on the floor, etc.)

We were running late and the iPhone was not cooperating with the focus button
Through my hair up in a sleek ponytail since I had driven from PA to Long Island in the same day - no time for doing a down-do! But, I think it worked well since there was a very mod feel to the dress.
